// WHAT YOU WILL LEARN
MOSTLY MYTH: a modern phone charger with nothing attached uses under 0.1 W (well under 1 kWh a year); unplug old or cheap ones for safety, not savings.
// LESSON NOTES
Myth or fact: a charger left in the socket wastes lots of power? 🔌
We measured it with a plug-in power meter, no phone attached:
A modern phone charger uses under 0.1 W. ⚡ (The rules in the EU and USA say 0.1 W max.)
In a whole year: 0.1 W × 8,760 hours ≈ 0.88 kWh → about $0.15. 🪙
So: MOSTLY MYTH. ✅
BUT: old chargers used more, and cheap uncertified ones can get hot. 🔥 Unplug those — for safety, not savings.
