Quiz #10: What does this symbol mean? → B, a capacitor
What does this symbol mean? (capacitor: two parallel lines)
QUIZ: two lines, a gap — what does this symbol mean? 🤔
A) Battery B) Capacitor C) Resistor D) Switch
Answer: B, a capacitor! ⚡
It's drawn just like it's built: two metal plates with a tiny gap (an insulator) between them. Charge piles up on the plates: + on one, − on the other.
⚠️ Don't mix it up: a battery's lines are long and short (long = +). And when a capacitor symbol has a + sign (or one curved plate), it's a polarised capacitor — it has a + side and must go in the right way round (the stripe on the can marks the − leg).
