Tech Story #8 · Golden Age G1: al-Khwarizmi — the word 'algorithm' is his name
Baghdad, about 820: the word 'algorithm' comes from al-Khwarizmi's name, and his book al-Jabr gave us the word 'algebra' (built on Babylonian, Greek and Indian maths).
Every app on your phone runs on a word that is someone's name! 📱📜
🏛️ Baghdad, about 820: the House of Wisdom, a huge library and place of learning.
🧠 Muhammad ibn Musa al-Khwarizmi built on Babylonian, Greek and Indian maths — and wrote it as clear steps: do this, then this, then this.
🔢 His famous example: x² + 10x = 39 → half of 10 is 5 → 5 × 5 + 39 = 64 → √64 − 5 = 3. So x = 3!
🔤 In Latin his name became "Algoritmi"… → ALGORITHM.
📖 And his book "al-Jabr" gave us the word ALGEBRA.
