Smart Buyer #6: Your first multimeter — 3 things to check
Your first multimeter: auto-range, CAT rating, continuity beep.
Buying your first multimeter? Check these 3 things! 🛒🔌
3️⃣ A LOUD CONTINUITY BEEP: it beeps when a wire is whole and stays silent when it's broken — so you can find broken wires without even looking at the screen.
2️⃣ A CAT RATING: it must be printed on the meter. CAT III 600 V is a good pick for home mains. No CAT rating? Skip it. Look for a real safety mark too: UL (USA) · CE/UKCA (Europe/UK) · BIS (India).
1️⃣ AUTO-RANGE: it picks the right scale by itself. With a manual meter you have to guess the range first; auto-range = no guessing.
Beep, CAT rating, auto-range!
