Smart Buyer #2: LED bulb — buy lumens, not watts
Lumens = light out (800 lm ≈ an old 60 W bulb), kelvin = colour (2700 K warm, 6500 K daylight), more lumens per watt = lower bill, and look for a safety mark (UL · CE/UKCA · BIS).
Buying an LED bulb? Ignore the watts! 💡🛒
✅ CHECK 1 — LUMENS: watts = power in, lumens = light out. 800 lumens ≈ an old 60 W bulb (450 lm ≈ 40 W · 1600 lm ≈ 100 W). An LED does it with about 9 W.
✅ CHECK 2 — COLOUR (kelvin): 2700 K = warm, cosy light (bedroom, living room) · 4000 K = neutral · 6500 K = cool daylight (kitchen, desk).
✅ CHECK 3 — EFFICIENCY + SAFETY: more lumens per watt = lower bill (800 lm from 9 W = 89 lm/W beats 800 lm from 12 W = 67 lm/W). And look for a safety mark: UL (USA) · CE / UKCA (Europe / UK) · BIS (India). No mark? Skip it.
Lumens, kelvin, safety mark. 📌 Save this for your next shopping trip!
Read the voiceover (transcript)
- Buying a bulb? Ignore the watts!
- Watts is power in. Lumens is light out. Eight hundred lumens: like an old sixty-watt bulb.
- Then pick the colour. Twenty-seven hundred kelvin is cosy warm. Sixty-five hundred: daylight.
- More lumens per watt saves money. And look for a safety mark: UL, CE or BIS.
- Lumens, kelvin, safety mark!
- Next: choosing a home inverter. Follow for more!
